How Much is a Beer in Mumbai

The Price of a Beer at 5 Bars in Mumbai

By , About.com Guide

Mumbai loves beer, and the quantity consumed is growing every year. However, due to all the taxes and charges imposed, Mumbai is one of the costliest cities to have a beer in India. While a small bottle of domestic beer retails for 40-50 rupees, depending on where you drink, you can end up paying five times this amount in a bar. The average price of a beer at a bar in Mumbai is 150 rupees. Here's a look at some of Mumbai's most well known bars where you'll pay less, and more, than this.

1. Cafe Mondegar

If you're looking for a relatively cheap drink in a lively environment, Cafe Mondegar is the place. This conveniently located south Mumbai hangout also has jukebox and a wide variety of Continental food, for those who need a break from Indian cuisine.

  • Price of a beer: 100 rupees. (Pitchers are also available).
  • Address: Corner of Colaba Causeway, next to the Regal Cinema, Colaba.

2. Bonobo

Jungle themed Bonobo is hip and cool, but not at all expensive. Beer lovers can save quite a bit of money by having a night out here. There's a refreshing absence of any self-important attitude. Weekdays tend to be relaxed, but it's party time on weekends!

  • Price of a beer: 130 rupees.
  • Address: Behind KFC, on Linking Road, Bandra.

3. Blue Frog

Sharell Cook

Mumbai's most popular live music venue, Blue Frog is a hit with locals, expats and tourists alike. A night out at Blue Frog definitely isn't easy on the pocket though. A beer will set you back around 200 rupees. It's usually worth it though. Blue Frog is a fabulous, acoustically designed venue that rarely disappoints.

  • Price of a beer: 200 rupees.
  • Address: Mathuradas Mills Compound, NM Joshi Marg, Lower Parel, central Mumbai.

4. Aurus

Friday night's hottest party destination is also one of Mumbai's most unforgettable bars. Apart from the fine dining and cutting edge EDM (electronic dance music), the attraction here is the beach. Aurus is located right on Juhu beach, and has a priceless view.

  • Price of a beer: 210 rupees.
  • Address: Ground Floor Nichani House, Juhu Tara Rd (next to Anita Dongre Showroom), Juhu, Mumbai.

5. Prive

Prive - Indage Restaurants

It makes sense that Mumbai's most exclusive bar also has Mumbai's most expensive beer. At Prive you're paying for the privilege of being around Mumbai's rich and beautiful people. The bar used to be a member's only establishment. However, if you look like you belong inside, there is a chance that you'll be granted entry (at a price of course). Live it up!

  • Price of a beer: 250 rupees.
  • Address: 41/44 Mon Repos, Ground Floor, Minoo Desai Road, Colaba.
