The Sutra D'Onyx luxury serviced apartments are part of Hotel Pali Hills. They're situated on separate floors of a residential apartment building just opposite the hotel. The location is enviable. It's very close to the Carter Road promenade, in Mumbai's hip suburb of Bandra.
I booked a whole apartment (all three bedrooms) for a group of my family and friends to stay in when they visited the city.
The apartments are every bit as attractive, if not more, as the photos on their website. They are modern, clean and beautifully furnished, with well equipped kitchens. One of my friends commented that the bed in her room was the most comfortable bed that she'd ever slept in. Such a statement shouldn't be taken lightly in India -- a country where I've encountered many hard beds and pillows!
Another appealing thing about the apartments is the number of top restaurants near by. Two of Bandra's most popular restaurants -- Olive, and Out of the Blue -- are on the hotel premises. Walk a few minutes down the road and you'll find yourself in the heart of the Carter Road restaurant precinct, amongst such favorites as Kareem's, Shatranj, and Crepe Station.
There were a few service-related hiccups that detracted from the stay though. One of my friends received a phone call from the hotel reception at 2 a.m., inquiring if she was alone in her room. The second extra bed that I repeatedly requested never materialized. The owner of the apartment also walked in unannounced one night. Fortunately, the congenial hotel management was apologetic and did their best to compensate for the problems.
Overall, the apartments offer good value for money in what is an expensive and elite area, full of shops, markets and nightlife.
