If you want a luxurious stay near Chennai airport, the Radisson is the most popular hotel. It's like an oasis amongst the unappealing surroundings, approximately 2 kilometers (10 minutes) from Chennai airport. Staff are friendly and service is above average. Complimentary airport transfers are a welcome bonus. The hotel also has a great spa for those who really feel like pampering themselves between flights.
