Each year, Skytrax (the world's largest airline review site) conducts its independent Passenger Choice Awards. Over 10 million questionnaires are completed by passengers to find out the best airports and airlines in the world. In regards to airlines, 38 different items of front-line product and service are evaluated. For airports, traveler experiences are evaluated across 39 different aspects, from check-in, arrivals, and transfer through to departure at the gate. To help you plan for a good travel experience in India, here are the award winners for 2011.
1. Best Full Service Airline: Kingfisher
Kingfisher Airlines has the same owner as India's famous Kingfisher beer. The airline started operating in mid 2005 and has more than 375 daily flights to 71 destinations, both domestic and international. It leads the way in regards to in-flight entertainment, and seating is spacious and comfortable as well.
2. Best Low Cost Airline: Indigo
Indigo commenced operations in 2006 and since then has been frequently acknowledged as India's best budget airline. The airline is particularly punctual, and maintains a high level of customer service and baggage handling. It also offers excellent connectivity to 25 cities across India.
3. Best Airline Staff Service: Kingfisher
Kingfisher Airlines puts significant effort into recruiting charming and attractive staff. It consistently rates highly for its outstanding customer service. Passengers are treated as guests, with many personal touches offered.
4. Best Airport: Bangalore
Bangalore airport is the third busiest airport in India, with over 10 million passengers a year. It's a new construction that opened in 2008. The terminal is a single building for both international and domestic departures. It's designed for ease of operation and minimum maintenance. The airport has significantly improved its ranking this year to become a passenger favorite. It is a world class airport but does have a couple of drawbacks. There's nowhere to stay at the airport, and the location is around 2 hours from Bangalore city center.
