The hilariously quirky 2013 Jaisalmer Desert Festival will be taking place this year from February 23-25, and business is booming in camel salons across Rajasthan. You see, decorating camels for the festival is a serious matter -- according to this news report, it takes three hours to groom a camel to look like the one in the photo, resplendent with colorful tassels, beads, and mirrors.
The cost? Anywhere from 700 to 5,000 rupees, depending on the detail.
Apparently 50,000 of the 300,000 camels in Rajasthan are into tourism, and the Jaisalmer Desert Festival is a prime opportunity for decorated camels to win prizes.
Other activities at the Festival include camel races, camel polo, competitions for the finest mustache, turban tying, and Mr Desert.
