Four years ago, the environment in Bihar is was very different to what it is today. Overshadowed by crime and poverty, Bihar wasn't a place that I ever thought I'd visit. However, that changed late last year, when I traveled there to experience the annual Sonepur Fair and see Bodhgaya.
I went with an open mind, and ended up greatly enjoying my time there. It was clear that Bihar is heading in a new and positive direction, especially in terms of tourism potential.
The government is currently working on plans to make Bihar the most visited state in India. It undertook some major initiatives in 2012, including beautification and promotion of its multitude of important religious sites. According to this news report, there are many more developments planned for 2013, including a number of festivals.
