Tamil Nadu, in south India, is enthusiastically preparing to celebrate the Pongal festival. The festival, which is the equivalent of Thanksgiving, will take place all over the state from January 14-17, 2013.
Pongal is a harvest festival that also marks the retreat of winter and the start of the Tamil New Year. Since most of Tamil Nadu relies on agriculture for its income, Pongal is one of the most important festivals of the year there. Find out more about how Pongal is celebrated in this guide to the Pongal festival.
And if you're a movie buff, don't miss checking out a Tamil movie. Some of the biggest blockbusters of the year are released during Pongal.
