Kerala more popular than the Taj Mahal?  If Google search trends for 2012 are anything to go by, then the answer is "yes"! According to this news report, Kerala edged out the Taj Mahal to top Google's search trends for India travel destinations last year.

No doubt, cruising the Kerala backwaters on a houseboat is a huge and well promoted attraction.  However, there are plenty of other tourist places in Kerala including Munnar -- which also featured in the top 10 Indian destinations according to the search trends (go there for the tea gardens and homestays).

Here's how the list looked.

In regards to the most searched for cities, Delhi topped the list. It was followed by Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai, and Pune.
