Living in hectic Mumbai can be tiring, especially after the busy festive season. Therefore, I was delighted to discover the perfect escape this week! A friend recommended that I spend some time at Manoribel on Manori Beach.
Mumbai isn't known for its peaceful beaches. Yet, Manori has remained undeveloped as it's located off the mainland, a short ferry ride from Malad in the outer northern suburbs. Village life is alive and well, with women carrying basket loads of fresh fish on their heads and old bungalows that have remained refreshingly intact.
Amongst it all, set on over seven acres of beachfront land with coconut grove, is Manoribel. This rustic and decades-old hotel is an enchanting place, with 20 cottages and rooms spread out over it. Since I was there mid-week, I almost had it all to myself. It was blissful. And of course, I stuffed myself so full of seafood that I could hardly move. Thankfully, there were plenty of hammocks too!
