Back in May, I mentioned that India's Ministry of Home Affairs had approved the extension of the Visa on Arrival facility to citizens of France, Germany and Russia. However, clearance needed to be obtained from the Bureau of Immigration before it was implemented.
Since then, I've had a number of people write to me, wondering what the status is. Unfortunately, there hasn't been any good news. According to this latest news report, "the proposal is under active consideration". The Indian government is apparently planning to add nine more countries to the existing 11 that can currently get visas on arrival in India. However, it's uncertain when it will happen and which countries they will be.
This reminds me of claims at the start of the year that something would be done about the 2 month gap on tourist visas. We're still waiting for action on that too!
