If you're like I was recently, you're probably wondering what the heck is "glamping". I stumbled across the term in this media release, which announced that Mumbai based eco-tourism company EcoMantra had forayed into glamping. Glamping?!
What it actually refers to is glamorous camping. Admittedly, I was intrigued because although I love being out amongst nature, I do like my facilities!
A bit of investigation revealed that there's actually quite a lot of what can be called "glamping" going on in India, due to the numerous luxury tented camps that have been popping up all over the country. These days, it's possible to go glamping in the desert, in the mountains, on farms, and at the beach! The luxury tents usually have attached bathrooms, and some even have separate living areas and air conditioning. It all depends on how glamorous you want to get!
Check out these 10 Places to Go Glamping in India to get an idea of the possibilities. Alternatively, EcoMantra are apparently now offering glamping trips to 25 destinations including Mahabaleshwar, Lonavala, Kolad and Harishchandragad in Maharashtra, as well as Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
More About India Accommodations:

Admittedly I have glamped. The experience was part of a prepackaged tour through Rajasthan with a two night stay in a fully outfitted tent. We had indoor plumbing including a sink with countertop, toilet and shower with hot water. The living area was as comfortable as any hotel room. The only thing missing was WiFi
I’d do it again!
Sounds awesome!
I’ve got to give it a try.
