Onam Week, the Kerala Tourism and Development Corporation's program of Onam events, is being inaugurated across Kerala today. This huge cultural carnival gets underway a couple of days before the main Onam day (Thiru Onam), which falls on August 29 this year. The best places to experience it are Kochi, Trivandrum, Thrissur, and Kottayam.

Major events elsewhere in the state include Pulikkali tiger play and dance at Thrissur on September 1, and the Aranmula Snake Boat Race along the Pampa River at Arunmula on September 2, 2012.
Many leading hotels will also be offering special Onam menus, featuring festival cuisine.
