While monsoon rain has failed to appear in many regions in India this year, other places have been inundated. The flood in India's northeast last month killed more than 120 people and hundreds of animals, and forced millions to flee their homes.
Now, Uttarakhand has been the latest state to receive torrential rain. A cloudburst on Friday night in the Uttarkashi district caused the Assi Ganga river to flood, wiping out roads and cutting off 80 villages from the rest of the state. So far 34 people have been killed.
The disaster has also caused a huge problem for nearly 1,000 pilgrims on the Char Dham yatra, who according to this news report, have become trapped on the roads to Gangotri and Yamunotri. They're currently staying in relief camps, while helicopters bring food and medicine.
