There have been some really great tourism promotion initiatives happening in Madhya Pradesh lately, including these "Off the Beaten Track" guides and the tourist caravan.
The most recent initiative, launched by the Madhya Pradesh EcoTourism Development Board late last month, is "jungle caravan" package tours to natural spots on the outskirts of Bhopal. Destinations include Kerwa, Van Vihar, Samardha, Kathotiya, and Chidikhoh.
The tours are one day tours. They cost 800 rupees a person, including snacks, lunch and transport in an "eco caravan" (essentially a mini bus) to various sites where activities can be undertaken. Depending on the tour, activities consist of everything from birdwatching to boating, and bullock cart rides! So, it's perfect for family outings. The tours also encompass an element of education about nature conservation.
