Remote Jammu and Kashmir is home to many Buddhist monasteries, particularly in the Ladakh and Zanskar regions. Encouraged by the inflow of tourists to the state, according to this news report, the Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to allocate 50 crore rupees to develop a Buddhist circuit in Ladakh.

As part of this plan, the government intends to carry out renovation and restoration works at 35 monasteries in the region, hire landscaping experts, set up tourism centers, and improve road infrastructure.
