Corruption and construction delays aside, it's now Dengue Fever that's posing a very real threat to the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games. According to a news report, a Malaysian athlete who was in Delhi to train for the Games contracted the virus and was hospitalized.
More than 1,400 cases of Dengue Fever have been reported in Delhi so far this monsoon season. Unfortunately, as it's a virus, avoiding getting bitten by mosquitoes is the only way to prevent it.
With less than a month remaining until the start of the Delhi Commonwealth Games, the authorities really need to take effective action against the mosquito problem. The latest plan is to spray all the venues with insecticide to control breeding. Let's hope it works!
