If you're heading to Delhi over the next couple of months, it's important that you take extra precautions against mosquitoes. The number of cases of Dengue Fever in Delhi this monsoon season is rising rapidly. However, Dengue Fever usually peaks towards the end of the monsoon and post-monsoon, in late September and early October.
Waterlogging near Commonwealth Games construction sites is largely to blame for the outbreak, along with intermittent monsoon rain which favors the breeding of Dengue transmitting mosquitoes.
Dengue Fever is carried by tiger mosquitoes, which mainly bite during daylight hours. They're particularly hungry and ready for a feed around sunrise. As Dengue Fever is a virus, it's impossible to prevent it. Therefore, it's best to avoid getting bitten. Wear a strong insect repellent containing DEET.
