Monsoon snake boat fun is about to reach a high point in Kerala, with the most exciting race of the season coming up -- the Nehru Trophy. This year the Nehru Trophy snake boat race will be held on August 14, 2010.
The best boatmen from each village have been vigorously practicing under strict supervision for weeks, while the boats are being prepared and polished.
Snake boat races are huge events in Kerala and draw thousands of spectators. If you're planning on visiting Kerala over the coming couple of months, do try to catch one of these fascinating races. They're held in and around Alleppey from July to September each year, and are a particularly big part of the Onam festival.
