A unique way to bring Christmas Day to a close in India is to attend the opening performance of the Mamallapuram Dance Festival. This month long music and dance festival kicks off with a mega cultural show at 6 p.m. on December 25, 2009. The show's theme is "A Journey into Our Heritage".
Mamallapuram Dance Festival is held on a stage in front of the Arjuna's Penance rock sculptures. The location, as well as being attractive, is quite handy to the bus stand for anyone wanting to travel cheaply to/from Chennai. Performances at the Festival take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
