Over the past 33 years, UNESCO has designated 890 world heritage sites based on cultural or natural heritage and having outstanding universal value. Quite a few of them can be found in India. The most popular ones include:
- Taj Mahal
- Fatehpur Sikri
- Ellora & Ajanta Caves
- Khajuraho Temples
- Mountain Railways of India (toy trains)
- Sunderbans National Park
- Valley of Flowers National Park
- Bodhgaya
However, it's Italy that claims number one position on the list, having a grand total of 44 sites.
This week About.com's Guide to Italy Travel, Martha Bakerjian, has compiled a fantastic blog carnival featuring UNESCO World Heritage Sites around the world. If you're interested in history, don't miss it!
