Stunning Mumbai Sahara Star Hotel

Sahara Star Hotel
Sahara Star Hotel

I happened to visit the luxury Sahara Star hotel, near the domestic airport in Mumbai, the other night. It was recently renovated, and what a visual treat it is!

The focal point of this mesmerizing hotel is a huge 55,000 square foot tropical lagoon, enclosed by a transparent dome. The dome is quite an architectural marvel because it doesn't have any pillars to support it. The hotel also houses India's largest aquarium. It's quite extraordinary.

The hotel's rooms are set around the lagoon, and each has a private balcony with excellent views. Guests have plenty of choices for eating and drinking as the hotel has five restaurants, a lounge bar, wine bar, nightclub, wine cellar, and coffee shop. I stopped by the nightclub, called the High Lounge, and the decor inside was just as stunning.

The hotel is currently offering a 15% discount on weekend packages (Friday, Saturday, Sunday nights). Rates start from 7,500 rupees ($150) a double, per night. Included are breakfast, two way airport transfers, gym, fresh fruit, bottle of wine, chocolates, cookies, 20% discount on food and hotel services, and free entry to the High Lounge for a couple. More information is available from the Sahara Star hotel website.

Even if you don't stay there, it's definitely worth dropping in just for a look!
