Manhindra, well known for its chain of hotels and resorts in India, has expanded its business to include homestays. Homestays, as the name suggests, are accommodations in someone's home. The concept is similar to that of a bed and breakfast.
Homestays are a great alternative to a hotel as they're much more personalized. In addition, they're often located in character filled properties such as heritage homes, plantation homes, and rural homes.
Currently, Mahindra Homestays offers quality accommodations in 25 tourist destinations in 10 Indian states, including Rajasthan, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Goa, and Sikkim. The company has around 100 homestays to choose from, with an average price of 2,500 rupees ($50) per night.
Guests can also enjoy a wide range of activities along with their stay. These include boat rides, fishing, house boat cruises, ayurvedic massage, cooking classes, cultural programs, and trekking.
For more information and online reservations, visit the Mahindra Homestays website. A 10% discount is being offered on summer bookings.
More About Accommodations in India:

I wonder why there aren’t companies offering Homestays as a lodging alternative in big cities in the US, like New York. Kind of an institutionalized Couchsurfing concept. An organized system of boarding houses. Perhaps their are big local taxes that prevent this business model.
