If you can't make it to Kolkata this Durga Puja, don't despair. Durga Puja festivities also take place in a big way in Delhi, and to a lesser extent in Mumbai.

In Delhi, the sound of Bengali music fills the city and more than 400 elaborate pandals of the Goddess Durga are on display. The most famous ones can be found at Delhi's mini Kolkata -- Chittaranjan Park (C R Park) -- and Minto Road. On the last day of the festival, on October 9, the Durga statues are paraded and immersed in the Yamuna River.

In Mumbai, Durga Puja is celebrated with around 150 displays of the Goddess Durga throughout the city. Large scale festivities, incorporating food and music, also take place at Shivaji Park in central Mumbai and Lokhandwala Garden in Mumbai's western suburb of Andheri.
