If you’re planning on traveling around India in the next couple of months but are wondering where to go to avoid the monsoon rains, now is the perfect time to experience the barren beauty of Leh, in far north Ladakh.
This incredible place is cut off from the rest of the world by snow for most of the year. However, the roads to Leh from Srinagar and Manali are both now open, and the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation will start running its deluxe tourist coaches along the Manali Leh Highway from July.
Leh is an adventure lover’s paradise, with everything from white water rafting to mountain climbing on offer. The beautiful, remote Buddhist monasteries are a huge draw card too. If you visit in mid July you’ll also be able to catch the colorful Hemis Festival, at the Hemis Gompa, which is being held on July 12 and 13 this year.
